Hand embroidery has always been a huge part of Indian clothing.

Zardozi, nakshi, salma, dabka, beads, French knots, sequins (yes, the famous “sequence” 😂), these are techniques many of us have grown up seeing without always realising how much work goes into them.

Today, with AI everywhere, fast fashion moving faster than ever, and designs getting copied overnight, it’s natural to wonder why smaller brands, custom-made pieces, or couture garments cost more.

The simple answer is that most people only see the final outfit.
They don’t see the hours spent by karigars, the materials sourced from different corners of the market, the sampling, the mistakes corrected, the embroidery done by hand, or the countless small decisions made before a garment finally reaches someone’s wardrobe. 🤍

And honestly, that’s okay.
The true cost of a garment is usually known only to the people making it.

Behind every piece is someone’s time, skill, patience, and years of learning a craft. That’s what you’re paying for as much as the garment itself.
