My new book "Emergence of New India" on Modern India, from 1947 -2024.
In May 1947, Mountbatten presented a scheme in which the provinces would be declared independent successor states and then given the option of joining or not joining the constituent assembly. The “Dickie Bird Plan” was the name given to this strategy.
The Radcliffe Line was the boundary demarcated by the two boundary commissions for the provinces of Punjab and Bengal during the Partition of India, had the ultimate responsibility to equitably divide 175,000 square miles (450,000 km2) of territory with 88 million people.
The country has faced religious violence, naxalism, terrorism and regional separatist insurgencies. India has unresolved territorial disputes with China which escalated into a war in 1962 and 1967, and with Pakistan which resulted in wars in 1947, 1965, 1971 and 1999.
Integration of Princely states and states according to linguistic basis was a very difficult task. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel , India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, was entrusted with the difficult task of unification of the princely states, along with VP Menon , Secretary of the Ministry of State. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel kept trying to convince the princely states to join India. At that time , he also introduced a new concept called “Privy Purse”.
The formation of the constituent Assembly, Making of Five years plan for economic developments,Dalit movement,role of Ambedkar,mandal commission,Women reservations,Hindu code ,Integration of Tribes, Zamindari abolition, Bhoodan movement, Green Revolution, and India’s role in world organisation, now we can say ourselves as the citizen of Morden India(1947-2024).
