Deep in the magical valleys of the Himalayas, in northeast India, are an abundance of castor plants. Here evolved the eri silkworm, Philosamia ricini, that feeds on castor leaves and spins an open-ended cocoon. Unlike in other natural silks, eri yarn is drawn from empty cocoons
that allow the silkworms to mature into moths and fly away, to complete their life cycle. Besides being a fabric of peace, eri is isothermal, keeping you cool in summer and warm in winter. Significantly, eriis environment-friendly, as the drought-resistant castor plant that eri silkworms feed on leaves a low carbon footprint. Traditionally, the indigenous people in the area picked ericocoons and hand spun the yarn. They wove shawls and simple unstitched garments with it. Eri silk is considered sacred, and became an integral part of their lives. Drawing from this ancient tradition, our eri silk sarees , shawls and fabrics are made from eri yarn spun in our facility that employs primarily under-privileged women. They have a flawless drape, and comfort that needs to be experienced. Besides their making leaves a low carbon footprint and creates huge positive social impact. Look and feel beautiful within!
