TOUGH TALES IN STONE....

Tamilnadu “The land of Temples” is rich in art of storytelling on stone. Mahabalipuram, 60 kms away from Chennai is the hub. The Viswakarma community practices the craft over generations.
Karuppu kal (black), Vellali kal (white) granite is first stenciled and chiseled along lines. Once carved, the surface is smoothened and cleaned to achieve the shine lustre.

Bengali weddings are replete with rituals that originally were month-long. Now with the paucity of time, we've managed to compress them into a few days.

So once the prenuptials & the main wedding & the are over with...Bodhu Boron is a ritual performed to welcome the bride to the groom's home.

The groom's mother greets the bride at the door followed by the groom's elder brother's wife placing a stone platter containing and - a mix called .

The bride is given a brass pot full of water to be carried into the house. She steps into the platter and walks with her red-colored feet on a white saree that gets imprinted with her footprints, right up into the kitchen where she let's a pot of milk boil over. Thus, syymbolizing her bringing with her happiness, prosperity & abundance. The elders of the house then bless the newly weds in a ceremony.
