The fashion industry is infamous for its impact on the environment and human health.We at ERIONWEAR realise this by identifying fashion with eco-friendly practices. Each of our garments are made entirely from eri silk processed manually, dyed naturally and woven in handlooms with the least possible environmental impact. We are presently a micro-enterprise based in the rural outskirts of Guwahati

in NE India. The goal is to impact livelihoods including rural weaving communities, enable eri plantations, & organic dyeing.

Please make sure that any muga products that you purchase is tested (even if it has silk mark etc.) the type of silk especially if it is Muga silk can only be ensured after a lab test.

successfully completed the Katia (autumn-winter) muga crop. Although the crop had been severely hit by viral diseases (flacherie) we managed to retrieve atleast an optimal number of cocoons ! A percentage of the cocoons have been made available for reeling while the rest will be sent for the Jarua (winter) crop which will provide seed cocoons for succeeding crops

so we were here : from Garo hills in Meghalaya to the plains in Brahmaputra valley travelling with muga seed cocoons for the main commercial crop - 'Katia' as in "Kaati Bihu" or Autumn-Winter crop. The seed cocoons will result in male-female moths, mating, egg-laying, larval stage finally cocooning followed by reeling of the muga silk yarn later.

muga ghicha sarees and acessories ! Ghicha is the hand-spun fibre from cut cocoons or pierced cocoons from which the muga moth emerge to complete its life cycle. Muga ghicha is a more 'affordable' and ethical alternative compared to Muga reeled. However products from Muga ghicha have lesser lustre compared to products made from reeled muga yarn. But they have that rustic appeal loved by many...

(please note that there are many counterfeit fabrics sold as muga, muga ghicha. please know what you are buying and always ask for test report for these exclusive products)

Muga Ghicha Shawls and chadars with both warp and weft handspun muga ghicha yarn, giving a minimal yet heirloom appeal.The ghicha yarn is handspun (not to be confused witn "muga spun" which is performed with machines at the mills) from muga cocoon remains, also known as "khula muga" or cut muga or pierced muga cocoons from which the adult moth did emerge to complete its life cycle and cocoons from which the filaments can't be reeled but the fiber can be spun. We will cover more on this fabric in a later post.
