Bluemadegreen What began with upcycling denim into new products in 2013 grew into a venture of upcycling old cloth

Most of us are unaware of the amount of electricity, water and fuel are required to make the clothes we own, creating its own impact on the environmental impact at each stage of their journeys. Our venture focuses on valuing the fabrics and provide new meaning to their presence in your lives after they serve the function you first bought them for! We make upcycled products from unused/old clothes

as well as fabric leftovers from tailoring units! Our customised products are a collaboration between our customers and ourselves, with their ideas and preferences, and our ideas and designs at bluemadegreen, bringing it to life, or rather giving a whole new life to the fabrics :)

Last week, bluemadegreen was part of the roundtable at “Closing the Loop on Textile Waste” organized by , and

It was an insightful exchange where stakeholders came together to discuss the urgency of textile waste management.

We discussed the following:
- Handling of post-production as well as post-consumer textile waste
- Challenges faced by textile recyclers
- Pressing need to bridge the gap between textile manufacturing and recycling
- Importance of upcylcing.

We also had the opportunity to visit the Greenworms Textile Recovery Facility to see firsthand how discarded fabrics are given a second life.

It was wonderful to demonstrate how we turn textile waste into durable, upcycled fabric products at the Textiles Committee Regional Office (Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India Ministry of Textiles, Government of India) in Kannur, Kerala, as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) campaign.

One question I am often asked is if I take workshops on upcycling. I had conducted multiple workshops towards the beginning of bluemadegreen. The workshop at Milaap this year reminded me of the tremendous joy I experience while teaching, imparting skills and spreading awareness about upcycling and sustainability.

I am looking forward to conducting a new set of workshops in the coming months! Do attend to learn upcycling and begin your own journey into the world of increasing the lifespan and value of the materials we possess!
