👁️ MYOPIA MANAGEMENT — KEY CLINICAL POINTS

Myopia control ≠ simply prescribing a new spectacle power.
It refers to evidence-based interventions aimed at slowing myopia progression and/or axial elongation, with treatment efficacy ideally monitored using cycloplegic refraction + axial length. (Myopia Institute -)

🔹 Key risk factors

Younger age at myopia onset → generally faster progression

Parental myopia

Reduced outdoor exposure

High near-work demand, particularly prolonged continuous near work and very close working distance (Myopia Institute -)

🔹 Evidence-based management options

Myopia-control spectacle lenses — peripheral defocus / contrast-reduction designs

Dual-focus / multifocal soft contact lenses

Orthokeratology (Ortho-K)

Low-dose atropine

Combination therapy in selected progressing cases

Increasing evidence is also emerging for light-based interventions, although protocols and long-term evidence continue to evolve. (Myopia Institute -)

🔹 Clinical monitoring matters
Don't judge treatment success from refractive error alone.
👉 Track cycloplegic refraction + axial length where appropriate.
👉 Monitor treatment adherence, visual function, ocular health and progression over time. (Myopia Institute -)

🔹 Lifestyle counselling
Encourage:

Regular outdoor time 🌳

Appropriate reading distance

Breaks during prolonged near work/screen use

Full-time wear of the prescribed myopic correction unless clinically contraindicated. (Myopia Institute -)

Clinical takeaway:
Early identification + accurate baseline assessment + evidence-based intervention + longitudinal monitoring = effective myopia management.

👁️ Do you wear contact lenses? Here are 7 rules you shouldn’t ignore!

Contact lenses are more than a beauty or convenience product — they are medical devices, so proper care is essential for healthy eyes. ✨

🔹 1. Always wash & dry your hands
Clean and dry your hands before touching your lenses.

🔹 2. Never sleep in your lenses 😴
Unless overnight wear has been specifically prescribed by your eye-care professional.

🔹 3. Keep lenses away from water 💧
Remove your lenses before swimming, showering, or using a hot tub.

🔹 4. Never clean lenses with water or saliva
Use only the recommended contact lens solution.

🔹 5. Never reuse old solution
Discard used solution and use fresh solution every time.

🔹 6. Replace your lenses & case on schedule
Follow the recommended replacement schedule and your eye-care professional’s advice.

🔹 7. Don’t ignore warning signs 🚨
Redness, pain, irritation or blurred vision? Remove your lenses and seek professional eye-care advice promptly.

✨ Remember:
Healthy eyes start with healthy contact lens habits. 🤍

👁️ CATARACT — Know the Signs, Protect Your Vision

Cataract isn’t just “normal blurry vision.”
It happens when the natural lens of the eye becomes cloudy, gradually affecting vision. 👁️

🔍 Common Signs

• Blurred, cloudy or hazy vision
• Increased sensitivity to light & glare
• Halos around lights
• Difficulty seeing at night
• Faded or yellowish colours
• Frequent changes in glasses prescription

🧠 What Causes It?

Ageing is the most common risk factor, but cataract can also be associated with:
• Diabetes
• Eye injury or previous eye surgery
• Long-term steroid use
• Excessive UV exposure
• Smoking

💡 Remember

Cataract usually develops gradually and cannot be treated with eye drops or glasses once the lens has become significantly cloudy. When cataract starts affecting your daily activities and quality of life, an eye-care professional may recommend cataract surgery.

✨ Don’t ignore changing vision. Get your eyes checked regularly.

👁️ THYROID EYE DISEASE (TED)
“Thyroid problem শুধু thyroid-এই সীমাবদ্ধ নয়!” ⚠️

🔹 What is TED?
An autoimmune condition that affects the eyes, eye muscles & surrounding tissues, most commonly associated with Graves’ disease. (American Thyroid Association)

👀 Common Eye Symptoms:
• 👁️ Eye bulging (Proptosis)
• 🔥 Redness & irritation
• 💧 Dryness / excessive watering
• 😣 Pain or pressure around the eyes
• 👁️‍🗨️ Puffy eyelids / lid retraction
• 🔄 Difficulty moving the eyes
• 👓 Double vision (Diplopia) (American Thyroid Association)

🚨 RED FLAGS — Don't Ignore!
⚠️ Reduced vision
⚠️ Loss of part of the visual field
⚠️ Change in colour vision
⚠️ Difficulty closing the eyelids

These may indicate optic nerve or corneal involvement and need urgent eye evaluation. (American Thyroid Association)

💡 Important:
TED can occur even when thyroid hormone levels are normal, so eye symptoms should never be ignored. (American Thyroid Association)

🚭 Smoking can worsen TED — avoiding active and second-hand smoke is important. (American Thyroid Association)

👨‍⚕️ Early detection + regular ophthalmic & thyroid evaluation = Better management.

👁️ Cataract Surgery — What You Should Know

Is cataract just a problem with increasing eye power?
❌ No! Cataract is the clouding of the eye’s natural lens, which can gradually affect vision. NHS – Cataracts

🔹 1️⃣ Common Symptoms
• Blurred or cloudy vision
• Difficulty seeing at night
• Glare or light sensitivity
• Halos around lights
• Faded or dull colours
• Frequent changes in glasses prescription

🔹 2️⃣ What is the definitive treatment?
👉 Cataract surgery is the definitive treatment when cataract significantly affects vision or daily activities. NHS – Cataract Surgery

🔹 3️⃣ What happens during surgery?
The cloudy natural lens is removed and replaced with an Artificial Intraocular Lens (IOL). AAO – Cataract Surgery

🔹 4️⃣ Why is IOL selection important?
IOL power and type are selected based on eye measurements, ocular health, lifestyle and the patient’s visual requirements.

🔹 5️⃣ One important thing to remember
✨ Cataract surgery is not just about removing the cataract—proper pre-operative evaluation and appropriate IOL selection are also important.

🔬 Slit Lamp Examination ✅️✅️

✨ Cornea
✨ Conjunctiva
✨ Anterior chamber
✨ Iris
✨ Lens

💡 Regular eye check-up শুধু power check করার জন্য নয়—চোখের health check করাও equally important।

👁️ Take care of your eyes before a problem becomes a symptom.
