GarshaLooms had the opportunity to exhibit at NIFT Kangra, along with Artisan Awareness Workshop. It was a valuable experience for our artisans, giving them great exposure to learn, grow, and build their skills.

We sincerely thank NIFT kangra for providing this wonderful platform and opportunity to empower our artisans.

This Women’s Day, we celebrate the women artisans of Lahaul.
The heritage of Lahaul lives in the hands of its women.
Their hands do more than create warmth; they preserve stories, culture, and the living heritage of the Himalayas.

They called it craft.
We call it art.

Same hands.
Same mastery.
Different respect.

From the high Himalayas of Lahaul comes a craft that weaves history, culture and craft into every stitch.

The tradition of Lahauli Socks began in the 19th century when Moravian missionaries introduced knitting techniques to local women in Keylong. Over generations, Lahauli artisans adapted these methods to create their own unique woollen socks with vibrant patterns, now celebrated as a symbol of Himalayan creativity and craftsmanship.

Today, Lahauli Knitted Socks and Gloves are officially GI-tagged, protecting their origin and honoring the heritage of the Lahaul region. This recognition helps preserve an art form that has warmed feet and hearts for centuries.

Discover the story behind the stitches — where tradition meets culture and craftsmanship thrives.
