The Bengal Walk

The Bengal Walk Our aim is to bring forward the different manufacturing unit of Bengal. We want to make people acquainted with those products. But what about the artisans?

People are forgetting the use of those products gradually. So we are showing those products at a very reasonable price. The summer afternoons of Bengal were mixed with emotion, nostalgia and sweat. People were highly skilled to make themselves suitable with the environment for their daily livelihood. As days passed the State embrace itself with the latest fashion & technology giving more ease & co

mfort to its people. With this, we have lost our primitive art & skills which were once the root of our identity. The artisans also lost their jobs. Some art were already abolished while some are in the way of abolishment. Lets bring those forgotten art again in front of the people and lets make them accustomed with those products. Lets bring a smile on the face of our artisans.

From ages there is a natural instinct of human being to preserve food for future. I have seen my grandmother drying and storing different seasonal items in the containers. I still remember the shelves where the containers were kept. And whenever we kids cried for something, parents failed to manage us my grandmother used to open the container and gifted me something from her stores which makes me smile. One such item was Daler Bori or Sundried Lentil Dumpings.
She used to paste the soaked Dal, shaped the dough into small dumps with her special touch and dry out in the sun. Not just any sun but the soft and mellow rays of the sun which nurtured the dumplings and made it crunchy, tasty and offcourse nutritious when fried. A rich source of protein as it is made of Dal.
Ahhh... I can still smell the flavour of the Bories which used to spread all over the house with the special touch of grandmother.

Pure home made ghee made with proper hygiene.

The story goes that Lord Prajapati Brahma, rubbed his hands together to create ghee to pour it into flames to create his children.
With the domestication of cattle came a wave of butter consumption. But India's Sun did'nt provide the environment for storing butter. Thus began the further cooking for separation between the liquid fat or 'liquid gold' and milk solids. The milk solids were removed. And the 'liquid gold' thus left was known as ghee.
The word 'ghee' came from the Sanskrit word 'ghrita' means to sprinkle.
