Dhakai sarees have their roots in the weaving traditions of Dhaka, Bangladesh and are known for their fine, delicate fabric and intricate workmanship. Traditionally woven with fine yarns, these sarees can be exceptionally light while demanding great precision from the weaver. When detailed thread work is added across the saree, every motif requires time, concentration and a highly skilled hand. Depending on the complexity, a single saree can take weeks or even months to complete.
This particular Dhakai brings all of that craftsmanship together in a beautiful shade of blue with delicate all-over thread work giving the surface its character while allowing the fabric to retain its graceful fluidity.
At Kanishka's, our love for Indian textiles has always meant celebrating the diversity of handloom traditions, from the familiar to the less widely known. Each weave has its own history, technique and visual language and we believe each deserves to be understood, appreciated and worn.
As Kanishka's completes 56 years on 15th August, we would love for you to join us in celebrating a journey built around India's extraordinary handloom traditions and the people who have made it possible. Come celebrate this special day with us, discover something beautiful for yourself and enjoy 10% off on all purchases, online and in-store, as our way of sharing this milestone with you. We look forward to welcoming you.
