In this world of countless machine made ‘perfect’ generic goods, Farah’s products embrace the imperfection and authenticity of individual handcrafted pieces. Her products are hand embroidered or hand woven and exhibit a kind of timeless creativity unique to the Bengali culture. Each piece is handcrafted by artisans in rural India at their homes with love and care. This makes them unique and exclus

ive to the extent of being limited edition. Each product is standalone piece of art, one that will never be replicated, worth being passed down as heirloom. Her labels Farah Khan Kantha and Farah Shawls encourage the growth and much needed revival of fine craftsmanship in hand embroidery. Farah’s artistic expression has transformed the traditional Kantha into a unique art form with a contemporary flavour. In the process, it’s transformed the lives of hundreds of women.

The countdown to Durga Puja has begun… ❤️💛💚
There is already a feeling of celebration in the air — that unmistakable excitement that tells us Pujo is coming!
At The Kantha Store, we too are getting ready. In the coming days, we will bring you Kantha sarees in many colours, designs and styles — each one carrying the beauty of Bengal and the touch of skilled hands.
And as Pujo comes closer, we will save some of our most beautiful Laal Paar Kantha sarees for the finale.

Today, we begin with this ivory saree — covered in delicate folk motifs, embroidered in striking black and red. Look closely at the fine running stitches. Every little line speaks of the patience, precision and perfection in the hands of our women artisans.
This is only the beginning…

Stay with us as we unfold our Pujo collection, one beautiful Kantha saree at a time. 🌷🌹

Some meetings are simply about a shared love for textiles. 💝
When one handloom enthusiast meets another, there is always so much to talk about!
A very happy afternoon with Joss Graham at his beautiful gallery in London — surrounded by art, textiles, stories and craftsmanship from around the world.
And of course, I had to wear my black Kantha saree. Somehow it felt completely at home there.
Paired it with a beautiful blouse by — a perfect fit, so comfortable, and just right with the saree. ❤️
From Bengal to London, the language of handmade connects us wherever we go.

Sometimes, the simplest stitch can tell the most beautiful story. ❤️

The humble running stitch of Kantha is just one small stitch, repeated again and again. Yet in the hands of skilled artisans, those tiny stitches can transform simple cotton into something extraordinary.

Our vibrant Kantha quilts are made with three or four layers of soft cotton, held together entirely by these rhythmic running stitches. Despite the layers, they remain wonderfully light — perfect as a cosy quilt, a colourful wrap, or simply draped over a sofa as a beautiful drawing-room throw.

And the same running stitch takes on another life when worked on fabric — creating richly textured textiles that can become kurtas, saree blouses, jackets and so much more.

Today, on National Handloom Day, I feel deeply grateful to celebrate a journey that began with a single dream—to honour the extraordinary women artisans of Bengal and keep the beautiful tradition of Kantha alive.

This Handloom Day is especially meaningful for us as we celebrate the reopening of our Fort William Kantha Boutique after its renovation. We are also opening
the doors to our renewed online store- www.kanthastore.com, making it easier for Kantha lovers across India and around the world to experience our collections.

As always, our focus remains the same—to create beautiful contemporary Kantha while bringing the skills of weavers, block printers, batik artists, Shibori artisans and Kantha embroiderers, to the whole world.

Happy National Handloom Day to every artisan whose hands keep India's textile heritage alive!

I am delighted to be back in Chennai for the Crafts Council exhibition. Over the last few months, my artisans and I have been working on a very special collection. This year, we have explored beautiful new combinations of Bengal's traditional art forms—fine Kantha embroidery with hand block printing, Shibori, Batik and subtle sequin work. Every saree represents the work of many skilled hands coming together.

If you are in Chennai, I would love to meet you over the next two days. Along with many wonderful craft makers from across India, we look forward to celebrating the beauty of handmade textiles with you.

From Dream to Destination ❤️

Four years ago, this was just a dream under construction.
As we mark The Kantha Store's 4th anniversary, I've been going through old photographs from those early days — and I'm overwhelmed with gratitude. While the store was taking shape brick by brick, my family and closest friends were right there with me — carrying boxes, giving opinions on paint colours, and believing in something a lot of people quietly thought was too ambitious.
The idea was simple: build India's one true home for authentic Kantha, where every piece carries the story and skill of Bengal's artisans, not just the stitchwork.

Four years on, it's grown into something bigger than I let myself imagine back then. Hundreds of artisan families now depend on this work. A craft that was quietly fading has found new life.

Visitors walk in our store from across the country and around the world, specifically looking for us.
It's our amazing women artisans behind every piece — who sit for months over a single saree, stitch by stitch, with patience .Every piece that leaves our store carries their hands, their time, and a little bit of their heart in it.
To our artisans, our families, our friends, and every single customer who has walked through our doors or ordered from afar — thank you.

This anniversary isn't just mine. It's ours.
Here's to preserving what deserves to be preserved, and to many more years of stories stitched together.🤎💙🩷🧡

With gratitude,

There is no bigger compliment than seeing customers return to us year after year.💚❤️

This lovely mother and daughter duo visited The Kantha Store to take home two beautiful lotus Kantha dupattas. The daughter, who lives in Singapore, shared something that touched my heart: "Whenever I come to Kolkata to visit my mother, I make sure I visit The Kantha Store."

She also spoke about how a single running stitch can create such extraordinary beauty. Moments like these remind me why this journey is so special.

To everyone who travels from different parts of India and the world to celebrate our artisans and their craft—thank you for your love and trust. It inspires us to keep creating timeless Kantha, one stitch at a time.

A handmade Mulberry silk canvas, brought to life with thousands of delicate Kantha stitches. The graceful blend of floral motifs and geometric patterns celebrates the perfect balance of artistry and precision.
There is something timeless about the richness of red silk. It speaks of love, celebration, strength, and heritage. Accented with soft white and yellow embroidery, this heirloom saree glows with quiet elegance—created to be treasured today and passed on for generations. A beautiful choice for a wedding trousseau or any occasion where memories are woven into every thread.

Every stitch tells a story. Every drape becomes a legacy.🌷🌸🌻

Precision beyond imagination: I was explaining to my friend and I thought of sharing this beautiful video with all of you🌻🌹
Every geometric stitch must fall exactly where it belongs. A single moment of distraction can disturb the entire pattern. This is the extraordinary concentration, patience and mastery that make authentic Kantha embroidery so special.
Every masterpiece begins with the quiet dedication of an artisan's hands.
