Shrujan - Threads of Life

Shrujan - Threads of Life Over 50 years of proudly Handcrafted in India apparel & accesories The Shrujan Story: Shrujan began modestly as a small project in 1969.

When Kutch experienced a particularly severe drought, Chandaben Shroff went there to assist with a famine relief project. During this trip, she realized that the rural women excelled at the local art of embroidery. This culture of embroidery has been handed down from mother to daughter for generations immemorial. Each tribal group and community in the area has it’s own particular style of embroide

ry, and lexicon of stitches and motifs. Chandaben Shroff developed a unique, sustainable means of income generation for village women. She got the local women to produce saris with exclusive embroideries. The profits were re-invested into building the organization. Currently Shrujan works with 16 different styles of embroidery, done by 3,500 women across more than 140 villages.

Handcrafted pieces in India aren’t made in big workshops.
They’re made in homes.

For artisans, “work from home” isn’t a trend.

It has been their way of life for generations ! Their home is their studio, their office, their workplace.

Every piece travels from one home to another, gets finished, checked, washed, ironed and only then reaches the store.

It’s not fast, and it’s not factory-made
It’s slow, thoughtful and built on real time and real people.

What began as an effort to keep one craft alive
has quietly grown into a movement that keeps many traditions relevant today.

Over the years, Shrujan has become a space where crafts continue to evolve with the same respect, integrity and purpose that defined us at the start.

Because true legacy isn’t about staying the same, it’s about growing without losing your roots.

Still handmade. Still evolving. Still Shrujan.
