Practiced mainly in the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat and some parts of Uttar Pradesh, the word Bandhani is derived from a Sanskrit word 'Banda' which means 'to tie'.

ਬਾਗ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦਾ ਰਵਾਇਤੀ ਕਢਾਈ ਵਾਲਾ ਦੁਪੱਟਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਵਿਆਹਾਂ ਵਰਗੇ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਸਮਾਰੋਹਾਂ ਲਈ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਇਹ ਵਿਆਹ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਵਿਆਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਰਸਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਲਾੜੀ ਨੂੰ ਤੋਹਫ਼ੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ। ਇਹ ਔਰਤ ਦੀ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ, ਖੁਸ਼ਹਾਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਤੰਦਰੁਸਤੀ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਕ ਹੈ। ਇੱਕ ਬਾਗ ਦੀ ਕਢਾਈ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਗਭਗ 6-8 ਮਹੀਨੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਸਨ।
