"Rituals of Imperanance" Tomorrow 6 pm onwards!

Rooted in the sensory memory of rural life, Jayesh Sharma’s Rituals of Impermanence turns toward the quieter gestures of kushti — where bodies become sites of knowledge, care, and endurance.

Working with natural light and a practice of slow observation, Sharma reveals moments where tradition rests, breathes, and transforms. A temporal ice sculpture underscores the fragility of these cultural forms, echoing how practices endure even as their environments shift.

Title: Presence
Concept: An Act of Cyanotype Exposed to Memory
Time: 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Venue: Open Space, The Great Eastern Mill
Date: Monday, 17th November
Description:
In this performance, the cyanotype cloth becomes a field of memory. The large 40 x 40-foot fabric acts as a living surface that receives the impressions of my presence - my steps, gestures, breath, and the small materials I have carried through my life. These objects serve as metaphors for personal histories: fragments of journey, labour, struggle, love, and quiet transformation. When exposed to sunlight, these impressions remain like traces of moments that cannot be spoken, only felt.
As the performance unfolds, the shadows of the audience also fall upon the cloth. Their silhouettes merge with mine, forming a shared image. This collective exposure reflects how lives intersect, how relationships imprint upon one another, and how identity emerges not in isolation but through connection. Their shadows are temporary, yet the cyanotype captures the enduring memory of that encounter.
This work exists between performance and archive - a collective print of time. It becomes a record of walking through life, carrying experiences, and meeting others. Beyond visibility, it speaks of what is sensed: the warmth of light, the weight of presence, and the intimacy of simply being beside one another. The cyanotype transforms into a landscape of lived emotion - a map of shared existence.
