Tantuvi

Tantuvi The Benarsi fabrics made under the label of TANTUVI only use pure Zari and are made in limited numbe My motivation is two fold.

It is my endeavor at TANTUVI to bring before my buyers the very best using patterns and motifs along with due thought given to the fabric, texture and quality. Firstly to seek that those weavers revive the dying traditional forms of weaving and, the other to see that the aesthetically oriented customer gets an opportunity to acquire what he desires. The fabrics made under the label of TANTUVI are

made in natural yarns of silk and cotton or in the combination of both. Providing support to the local real zari industry all the zari used by our organization is pure. In cooperating, along with thread and pure zari are a host of other fibers, which have their roots in the past. To name a few we use jute, wool and even beaten silver ribbon on the loom. The primary pitch of TANTUVI is sarees produced with patience skill and dedication. By making the sarees in limited numbers, we do our bit to ensure its exclusivity. If we achieve our larger object of recreating the fabric of an era gone by and of preserving the skills of the weaver, we believe it shall serve a purpose. The purpose of keeping intact the chain connecting yesterday, today and tomorrow – for should a single link be missing, it would make the chain both meaningless and useless! Buying a handloom ensures the burning of the kitchen fire in the home of a weaver for a little longer. Buying from TANTUVI enables us to carry on the efforts we have started to breathe new life into the second largest industry in India – Handloom – second only to agriculture.

Pattern drawing or Likhai is a very important and crucial stage in the planning and making of a Benarsi saree. These designs are drawn in actual size on mica (Abrak) sheets or on paper. Today designing is mostly done on paper. Earlier, black ink or Syan Kalam used to be used on handmade Sanganer or map litho. To pigment the ink, lamp black tempered with a gum Arabic and oil was popularly used.
Today ofcourse, gateway paper and pencil or fine tip pens have replaced the erstwhile mediums. Infact in contemporary times the designs generated on the computer are what are used widely, devoid of human touch. However, we at TANTUVI still prefer to use old age method of pen on paper for we believe that nothing can do justice to a design in the manner the human hand can.

This interpretation of the lotus is an artistic take on the top view of a from where the inside petals appear larger that the outside ones and the leaves appear smaller in proportion to the flower itself. This is much like life itself where ones own interpretation of a situation is often exaggerated and very different from reality.
