Kantha is still the most popular form of embroidery done with folk motifs. BATIK - The word Batik actually means "Wax writing". It is a process of decorating cloth by covering a part of it with a coat of wax and then dyeing the cloth. The waxed area keep their original colour and when the wax is removed with boiling water, the contrast between the dyed and undyed portion make the beautiful pattern. The characteristic of Batik are the fine cracks that appears in the wax, which allow small amounts of the dye to sleep in.
