BELOW IS A PHOTO OF HUMP 2 AND TWO OF HIS wives. Hump 2 took his father's name after he was killed. The "2" identifies him differently from his father. His mother was a Cheyenne and his father was Crazy Horse's uncle. In the Lakota culture if a man could support more than one woman, he could have more than one wife. Support meant the ability to kill enough meat to feed all. We did not use money nor did we understand it during our free roaming days. To us it was just thin slices of a tree. Food and a horse to hunt our meat with was more important. Hump 2 was almost killed at the Battle of the Little Bighorn. A bullet penetrated his leg and also killed his horse in the process. When it fell it pinned his leg underneath its body. Bear With Horns and a warrior named Dark Face saw his dilemma and charged the soldiers to keep them from killing Hump 2. They were successful.

Don't know why this hasn't received more publicity, but this fifty-foot sculpture was unveiled recently in South Dakota.
It's called 'Dignity' and was done by artist Dale Lamphere to honor the women of the Sioux Nation.
