Contemporizing Hand-made Textiles

Hand-made, we all know, is, by default, sustainable & eco-friendly.

India has had a centuries old tradition and heritage in hand-made textiles.

The need of the hour is to change the perception of traditional hand-made textiles – handloom / khadi fabrics – by offering and showcasing trendy and contemporary ensembles which will capture the attention of the youth & the millennial, in India, and across the globe…

A whole new breed of fashion designers have been consistently trying to stitch sustainability into everything they do… from sourcing eco-friendly / handmade fabrics, produced ethically, to transforming vintage sarees and stoles into resolutely contemporary dresses

This new generation of designers is approaching sustainability in a way which shuns all traditional connotations, and is definitely influencing the global youth to use hand-made textiles in day to day life.

Denim Club India offers hand-made denim fabric in different weight ranges ideal for all kinds of apparel from kurtis, jackets, to shorts and trousers…

In a bid to popularize the fabric, Denim Club India has been collaborating with young and independent designers wanting to work with the traditional fabric but creating silhouettes that are more contemporary and not necessarily Indian.

An array of innovative and modern ensembles have been created by these designers using the handmade fabric offered by DCI, which will go a long way to help in changing the image of hand-made textiles from a staple for sari and dhoti material.

Madhuri Gutha, a Hyderabad based designer, has created an awesome, out-of-this-world collection of hi-fashion apparel for the youth, using Denim Club's HAND-WOVEN SELVEDGE DENIM FABRIC. We use a wide variety of eco-friendly organic vegetable dyes, which offer several advantages over synthetic (chemical based) dyes, as they are bio-degradable, non-toxic & environment friendly.

PERIPHERY – S/S 2019

The S/S 19 collection is an exploration of lines and dreams contrasted with the notion of limitations and restrictions. It’s a realization and visualization of boundaries one has to cross to be closer to the dream.

Detailed tucks and embroidery, back opening, minimalist silhouettes, pipings and subtle detailing are the essence of this collection.

This collection is made on naturally dyed khadi denim that has been made in collaboration with Denim Club India.

The underlying outlines in the garments depicts the boundaries drawn around them. This creates the heavily contrasted pieces that, although more structured, when looking closer you’ll see the subtle beauty and detailing in the lines.

Lastly, every piece in the collection is hand finished with a treasured element of tucks, beading or embroidery – the personalized signature of all CROSS A LINE pieces.

CROSS A LINE is a luxury denim wear label, created by Delhi based designer Vaishale Mittal.

Vaishale works exclusively with hand-woven eco-friendly denim.

Each piece is designed autonomously and when paired together brings to life the label’s underlying ethos, becoming a harmonious blend of beauty and rebellion.

Dynamic detailing, exquisite textures. luxury fabrics and delicate embroidery are pieced together with tough, androgynous, statement denim essentials.

Redefining the Denim paradigm ......

This exclusive pair of "Rock&Roll Blazer" and "Just Jazz Jeans" ... conceived and designed by Rajesh Dudeja ... hand-crafted out of Denim Club's premium 100% cotton khadi denim selvedge denim fabric ... custom tie & dye with natural indigo ... was hand-picked by the selectors for the "GREEN CLOSET" theme collection at the Trend Zone set up at the during

All the fabric panels in the body of the jacket and jeans have been hand-cut, hand tied & dyed with natural indigo, and then hand stitched to create a harmonious composition of truly unique individual pieces that celebrate cultural artforms.

The garments are sewn at a single location, by a single tailor, on a vintage foot-pedal operated sewing machine.

It takes approx 35-40 man hours of meticulous work for completing and finishing each garment.

The entire process of making yarn, dyeing, weaving, and making the garment is carried out without using automated or electrically operated machines.

Starting with the use of eco-friendly fabrics, creating contemporary and trendy designs with a consideration for the environment at each step is a testament to the fact that fashion and sustainability do go hand-in-hand.
