From New Delhi to Hampshire 🌍🧵
Textile students and teachers at Havant & South Downs College, UK, participated in a Silaiwali Experimental Workshop — exploring upcycling, hand-stitching, and circular textile practices inspired by our work with marginalised women artisans in India.
Working with reclaimed fabrics, the group experimented with form, texture, and storytelling — transforming textile waste into expressive, handcrafted pieces. What moved us most was not just the creativity but the shared language of slow craft.
Silaiwali began as a response to waste and displacement. Today, it is also becoming a bridge — connecting classrooms in the UK with refugee and rural artisan communities in India.
When students reimagine discarded fabric, they participate in a global circular movement. 🌿♻️
Thank you to the wonderful faculty and young designers for embracing ethical making, zero-waste thinking, and hands-on experimentation.
Craft connects.
Waste transforms.
Stories travel.
