kala loka: indian summer
the IKAT story: Me and one of my closest girlfriends travelled across the south of india (Goa, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu & Kerala) in December and January of this year. We came across the fabrics, and it was an instant love connection/collection.
the KHADI story: In March my mother and I saw each other after almost a year and a half in my family home in Rajasthan, we travelled a little and I found myself consistently drawn to the very fabric that let us beat the dry heat of rajasthani summers then & now: khadi the handwoven cloth they call "a movement".
the Button Story Finally in April I I took a solo trip to nepal found myself in a tiny little shop that sold the most beautiful buttons of bone, coconut, shell & horn. I was tripping on the buttons and trying to keep everything in the collection as organic as the fabrics. I also found myself weaving/braiding fabrics and adding pockets to almost all the pieces.
I had a lot of help from the people in my life to make this happen. Sisters believed in me when I didn't know how to believe in myself and helped me when i needed it. It was and is very important for me to keep this as real & honest as possible so the above photographs have no models, no photographers, no artificial light, no editing la la la, just some friends getting together & creating something meaningful. This was a labour of love and I enjoyed absolutely every element of this experience and needless to say "i get by with a little help from my friends".
