The pearl belongs to the moon. In Vedic astrology it is the moon’s own stone, linked to the mind, the mother, and the tides of feeling that rise and settle in us each month.
Old Indian poets believed pearls began as raindrops falling under a single star, caught by an oyster on the seabed and carried down into the dark, where they slowly became light. The moon has always kept its hold on that dark water, pulling the tides in and letting them go, and in Greek myth the same sea was home to the Sirens, who sang from their island with voices so sweet that sailors forgot their way home.
Over time the Sirens became creatures of the deep, keepers of everything the water holds, pearls among them, and their song carried the moon’s own pull. The tug of feeling, of longing, of a voice that draws you closer.
