Traditional Khun(खण) Saree
This saree has khun(खण) fabric which is intricate brocade like pattern woven on a pit loom with a combination of silk and cotton or just cotton.
The pallu is attached with body by hand with a series of loops, locally termed as the topi teni technique. The characteristic 'arrow' pallu of Ilkal is called 'tope' pallu. Also the border has a characteristic zari pattern called 'paras' or 'chikki paras'.
‘khun’ means sugar and this is a fabric worn by women in the sugar cane belts in Maharashtra and Karnataka, you will see beautiful countryside women going about their daily work clad in beautiful khun sarees. Lets rediscover our magical traditional weaves.
