Taani Bani
Authenticity Woven in Every Thread
Taani Bani is a brand run by a mother-daughter duo. It was started by Suvarna Pathak, who wanted to pay tribute to her father and his work in the handloom business. Her daughter, Rutvi Chitnis later joined her because of her love for fashion and ethnic wear.
Taani Bani's story dates back to the late 1950s when Rutvi's grandfather moved to Maheshwar and began working in state government handlooms as a weaving master. Over the years, he became a training manager and in the early 1980s, he started working at Rehwa Society, contributing to the preservation of handloom weaving.
In the early 2000s, during a visit to Pune, Suvarna's father encouraged her to start a business in Maheshwari sarees. However, before she could act on his advice, he fell ill and passed away. At that time, her kids were still in school, and without the necessary resources or support, she had to set the idea aside.
In 2014, Suvarna reconnected with people in Indore and Maheshwar who had known her father and his work. Her determination led to the birth of Taani Bani (previously Tani Bani Handlooms). Starting from home, she built the brand through exhibitions, slowly creating the strong network the brand has today.
Rutvi has always been drawn to fashion and admired the elegance of sarees. So, when the opportunity came, she joined her mother to bring Taani Bani online and make these beautiful weaves accessible to saree lovers everywhere.
Today, this mother-daughter duo is launching their own online store—bringing you authentic, handcrafted Maheshwari sarees woven with tradition, love, and a touch of their family’s legacy.
