🏔️ Can a mountain be a calendar, a guide, and a keeper of souls?
For the Yimkhiung Naga tribe, Mount Saramati is exactly that. In their beautiful oral tradition, the mountain acts as the "Timekeeper of the Harvest." Without written calendars, the village elders looked to the peak—a gentle melting snowcap and the return of the Hornbill meant a bountiful spring. But unmoving, static fog was a silent warning to prepare for lean times.

Swipe through to follow little Saramati as she learns to read the signs of her namesake mountain. 🌾✨

But what happens when the mountain brings a warning instead of a promise? That is when the village turns to the Metümnyo Festival.

Translating beautifully to the "Soul Wrapping Feast" (Me = Soul, Tüm = Wrap, Nyo = Feast), Metümnyo is a time for emotional reconciliation and community resilience, regardless of what the harvest brings. It teaches us that when the outside world feels uncertain, we survive by wrapping our community's spirit in love, tradition, and shared strength.

At KathaDoi, we believe that life is filled with stories, and the materials we surround ourselves with are vessels for those memories. When a beloved handloom textile reaches the end of its wearable life, its journey doesn’t have to end in the dark corner of a wardrobe—or worse, a landfill. By w...

A handcrafted fabric doll is a medium to dive deep into the "titbits" of culture and identity. By bringing an ethnographic lens to these figures, they become more than playthings—they become conversation starters about forgotten handmade practices, regional drapes, and community beliefs.
