The Shikhar Handloom and Handicraft Weavers Welfare PCS Cooperative Industrial Society Ltd. Rampur Bushahr, Tehsil Nirmand, Distt. Kullu H.P, came into being on 9th February 2004. Our areas of operation namely Outer Seraj did not have many skilled weavers of new generation since in the absence of an organized set up to produce and market the handlooms, the returns on investment of labour had not b

een renumarative enough for past generation of weavers. We were lucky that a large no of youth especially women and school dropouts were available due to demographic boom as well as diminishing rate of returns on agriculture sector. There is very low level of activity in horticulture sector as well in this area. All we needed to do was provide the platform for the trainers and trainees available. The same was provided by IHTP scheme of Ministry of textiles, Govt. of India. We were able to train and equip about 200 weavers of our area in the Five years period and this process goes on. Today the society has become the leader in its field being the only Cooperative Society in state with its own spinning mill and complete one stop shop from Fiber to Fashion. Our society has the following setups
1. Angora Rabbit Farms at Nirmand to meet the demands for quality wool.
2. Carding unit at Village brow to meet the need of wool growers of 4 districts.
3. Spinning Mill at Brow to make quality yarn from local wool.
4. Weaving units at Brow, Nirmand and Arsu employing 100 weavers in house and also 50 weavers at their homes.
5. Collaborative handloom weaving units in Chanderi M.P. for Silk woolen products.
6. Finishingand Dyeing plant at Brow.
7. Sale outlets at Rampur Kufri and RPeo.
8. Tie ups with export houses in Mumbai.
