Household items such as quilts and cushion covers are also adorned with khatwa.
As garments are personal items of use, motifs that appear on them are abstract and stylised. Applique from Bihar is characterised by the use of red, yellow, green and orange motifs. These vibrant colours appear on applique textiles throughout India, reflecting the vibrant lifestyle of everyday India, and its myriad communities and cultures that live in unison.

Kheta Embroidery Cotton Saree!!

Kheta is reversible, hand embroidered, repurposed, quilted textile made by the women of the shershabadi community in kishanganj, Bihar. Over the last 400 years this community has migrated from the delta area of Bangladesh, along the rivers in search of livelihood.

They have settled in the flood plains of Bengal, Bihar and Orissa. Using only a needle and thread, the women create these beautiful textiles, generally used as a blanket for their newborn or as a bedcover for the newlywed couple.

Haviely influenced by observations of daily living, farming activities and vernacular  architecture,  the textile is embroidered with patterns that are delicate, geometric, dense and vibrant in colours.
