Dharki

Dharki Dharki is a heritage handloom brand rooted in Varanasi, celebrating India’s rich weaving traditions since 1965.

Founded by Brijesh Gupta, Dharki specializes in authentic Banarasi sarees, handwoven silk, and artisan-made textiles. With over 700 handlooms across Varanasi, Madhya Pradesh, and West Bengal, every piece reflects timeless craftsmanship and ethical production. Trained under a master Naksheband, Brijesh brings deep knowledge of Karwa weaving, boota motifs, and intricate Banarasi designs. At Dharki, we honour artisans and preserve the legacy of Indian handloom weaving for future generations.

Towering over Egypt’s rural landscapes, these ancient pigeon houses — built from mudbrick, clay, and palm wood — are masterpieces of vernacular design. Their conical forms, punctuated by rhythmic openings and wooden perches, create natural ventilation and shelter — architecture shaped by instinct and environment. What endures is not just their function, but their poetry — structures that transform necessity into art, standing timeless against the desert sky.

Giuseppe Penone, a central figure of Arte Povera, has always used trees as living archives — bodies that record time, force, and human presence. His sculptures trace these encounters between nature and intervention with quiet precision.

In Albero folgorato (2012), Penone cast a monumental oak struck by lightning. The bronze preserves the exact form of the tree while gilding its core in gold — turning an act of destruction into a revelation of hidden beauty. The work speaks to how natural forces inscribe themselves on matter, leaving behind both trauma and transformation.

With Luce e ombra (2014), Penone once again stages this dialogue. A cast bronze tree cradles a granite sphere and branches lined with gold leaves, capturing the tension between weight and light, earth and sky. Here, the tree becomes a frame for opposites — shadow and illumination, gravity and suspension — a meditation on how nature holds all these forces at once.

Bharat Sikka has spent decades mapping the textures of modern India — not just its landscapes, but its intimate, often fragile collisions of tradition and change. His lens moves between portraiture and narrative, always searching for that space where the personal becomes mythic.

This image feels like a continuation of that journey — poised between stillness and theatre, it becomes less a photograph than a constructed memory. Light, gesture, and composition fold into something that is both documentary and dream, reminding us why Sikka remains one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary photography.
