A design hacking of the vintage Xline chair, originally produced by Magis in the 1980s. The project reflects on the evolution of an object over time and the shifting value we bestow upon it.

MDW2026

The name SUMI comes from the Japanese term for the ink used in calligraphy, made from pine soot and glue. The material used for SUMI is marine pine plywood, treated on the surface first with a burning technique (shou sugi ban) and subsequently with an indigo dye.
