Every now and then I like to move a few decades forward and land in the second half of the 15th century.

This doublet has the close fitting line typical of the period, with a well shaped torso.
The sleeves are soft in the upper part, where the fabric falls into gentle folds, while along the forearm they become closer fitting and follow the shape of the arm.
The wool twill by WoolSome has a clearly visible weave and is dyed in a warm ochre yellow, leaning towards brown.
The inside is lined in natural white linen.
It closes at the front with internal hooks, keeping the outer line clean.

The eyelets were machine-sewn at the customer’s request

This was truly a beautiful project.
Or rather, a part of a project that I found deeply satisfying.

The shape, the colour, the reference image it was drawn from, the meaning it holds for the customer, the conversations and the planning that took place with the person who now proudly wears it.

Thank you Angelo Tartaglia project -1370-1421 for this opportunity.
This surcoat is a few years old now, but I still remember every part of the process perfectly.
Now Compagnia dell'Ariete has their share of pink too 🍬

Questa immagine è un ponte nel tempo.
Da una parte l’affresco, silenzioso testimone del Medioevo; dall’altra la materia che torna a vivere.

Nel cuore della Rocca Albornoz-Museo Nazionale del Ducato di Spoleto - Pagina Istituzionale , il ciclo di affreschi della Camera Pinta conserva non solo immagini, ma gesti, tessuti, identità.
Da quelle pitture nasce questa ricostruzione fedele dell’abito, frutto di studio, osservazione e rispetto assoluto per la fonte storica.

Progetto, ideato e indossato da Massimiliano Simonetti , prende forma all’interno dell’ Angelo Tartaglia project -1370-1421 trasformando il colore in volume, la pittura in presenza reale.
Un esercizio di archeologia visiva e sartoriale che restituisce corpo a ciò che il tempo aveva reso bidimensionale.

Gli affreschi sono attribuiti a un artista attivo nel periodo della presenza di Marino Tomacelli a Spoleto (1392–1416): anni in cui la Rocca non era solo fortezza, ma centro politico, culturale e simbolico.

Qui il museo non è solo custode, ma origine.
Qui la storia non è ferma: respira di nuovo. ❤️

Ed anche quest'anno al fianco di Argothea - Handmade Historical Products.
Ora che sapete dove trovarci entrambe non avete scuse per non fare un salto! 😊

I love what I do, and I put my heart and soul into it and it truly makes me happy!

But as they say, no joy comes without a little pain.
From last weekend’s event Villafranca nella Storia - Il Medioevo rivive al Castello I came home with plenty of happiness… and the flu.

So I’ll be resting at home from tomorrow until Sunday.

The tough price of doing what you love.

🌸 Fifty shades of pink…medieval edition! 🌸
Turns out I am not the only one who loves pink 😉
The 14th century was full of colors, despite what movies and TV shows often suggest.
All shades of pink were very much a thing back then
History never looked so rosy! 💕

Mantello sulla base del ritrovamento di Bocksten.
Il mantello ha un davanti ed un dietro, le spalle preformate e viene indossato con l'apertura su un unico late (in questo caso a destra).
E' fatto in twill di lana blu notte, con fodera in rosa intenso tendente al rossastro ma dal sottotono freddo (rose madder mi sembra la traduzione migliore), che dona un bellissimo contrasto quando il mantello viene aperto.
La chiusura è sulla spalla destra dove bottoni in argentone (nickel silver) a forma di goccia rendono semplice indossare il capo.
Asole fatte a mano.
Misura dello scollo: 48cm
Lunghezza dalla spalla al fondo: 72cm

Cloak based on the Bocksten find.
The cloak has a front and a back, preformed shoulders and is worn with the opening on one single side (in this case on the right).
It is made of midnight blue wool twill, with a rose madder lining, an intense pink tending towards reddish but with a cool undertone, that gives a beautiful contrast when the cloak is opened.
The closure is on the right shoulder where nickel silver drop shaped buttons make it easy to wear the garment.
Buttonholes hand stitched.
Neckline: 48 cm
Length from shoulder to hem: 72 cm
