According to one legend, the thermal springs of Saturnia were formed when the Roman god Saturn threw a lightning bolt to earth to subdue warring humans. In another story, the lighting bolts were thrown by Jupiter during a fight with Saturn; those that missed the target formed these dramatic hot springs.

Isola dei conigli, Lampedusa (Italy)

According to some, it was named by Admiral Smith who, in 1842, referred to it as Rabit Island in his nautical charts. Mistakenly, the term was understood as Rabbit, with two B's. Hence Isola dei Conigli, meaning Rabbit Island. Truly, the term Rabit was an Arabic term (rabit = linking / that binds, connects), a language Smith may have relied on to refer to the sandy isthmus of about 30 meters that rarely forms at low tide between the islet and the coast, effectively connecting them to each other.
