ANANSI IS A SAGA BOY.
Long before social media.
Long before influencers.
Long before anybody spoke about “personal brand.”
There was Anansi.
The spider-man of Caribbean folklore.
The trickster.
The storyteller.
The survivor.
Small in size.
Big in spirit.
A figure carried from West Africa to the Caribbean and passed from generation to generation through stories, memory and imagination.
For Anansi, Alicai Harley’s celebration of Jamaican culture and folklore, Sagaboi had the honour of designing the costumes worn by Anansi himself, alongside looks worn by Alicai.
Set against the Hill & Gully Riddim, one of the most influential rhythms in Jamaican music, the project feels like a conversation between past and present. Folklore. Fashion. Music. Memory.
The starting point was Jamaica’s national dress, the Quadrille.
As inspiration.
As proof that our stories still have somewhere to go.
