Juan Martín del Potro broke down in tears on court on Tuesday night as he began an emotional goodbye to competitive tennis in Buenos Aires.

Argentine tennis legend Juan Martín del Potro broke down in tears on court on Tuesday night as he began an emotional goodbye to competitive tennis.

Del Potro, or 'Delpo,' acknowledged that he was near the end of his career in an on-court post-match interview, saying "it's possible that we don't meet again."

The 33-year-old's return to tennis after a two-and-a-half-year injury absence did not go as plan, ending in defeat as he beaten in straight sets by compatriot Federico Delbonis in the Argentina Open.

"Today I gave everything I had, until the last point. I'm happy because my last match was probably on a court and not at a press conference. And in front of all of you. I'm going to remember you always," Del Potro said through tears, addressing the entire stadium.

"Delpo is not leaving," chanted the crowd, who gave him a standing ovation.

In what was expected to be one of Del Potro's final appearances before retiring, the former US Open champion was overcome with emotion as Delbonis wrapped up a 6-1, 6-3 victory in one hour and 23 minutes.

To huge applause from the local crowd in Buenos Aires, Del Potro wiped away tears as he prepared to serve what would turn out to be the final game of the match.

“UNDER THESE BLACKMAILS NOVAK PROBABLY WON'T PLAY IN AUSTRALIA" BELIEVES FATHER SRDJAN DJOKOVIC

Novak Djokovic is not yet confirmed for the Australian Open as nobody really knows whether Djokovic is already vaccinated or if he will get vaccinated at all.
The Serbian has maintained his stance that it's a private matter that he won't share publicly and until the event does not start it's hard to see how anybody will know whether Djokovic is playing or not. In a recent interview with TV Prva, his father Srdjan Djokovic, who has made bold statements before talked about the issue. He said:
"As far as vaccines and non-vaccines are concerned, it is the personal right of each of us whether we will be vaccinated or not. No one has the right to enter that intimacy, it is guaranteed by the constitution. Everyone has the right to decide on their health. Will he publish it (if he is vaccinated or not), I don't think so. I don't know that decision either, and even if I did, I wouldn't share it with you. He has the right to decide as he wants."

Djokovic is not a fan of how the Australian Open handled the whole situation comparing their position on vaccination as blackmail. He also believes that his son would not conform to this type of blackmail:
"Under these blackmails and conditions Novak probably won't play at the Australian Open. It was embarrassing because of the announcement of those rulers in the provinces of Australia, who gave themselves the right to call out nine-time champion of Australia. I wouldn't do that. And he's my son, so you figure out for yourself if he is going to play or not."

Djokovic also took a shot at Craig Tiley the event director saying:
"What is a recognized vaccine, Mr. Craig? Russian vaccine is not recognized? According to our criteria, only Chinese and Russian are recognized. The libertarian world has 90 percent of the world's population. For us, it is Russian and Chinese. Recognize them and we will vaccine, with pleasure."

It's no accident, I think, that tennis uses the language of life. Advantage, service, fault, break, love, the basic elements of tennis are those of everyday existence, because every match is a life in miniature. Even the structure of tennis, the way the pieces fit inside one another like Russian nesting dolls, mimics the structure of our days. Points become games become sets become tournaments, and it's all so tightly connected that any point can become the turning point. It reminds me of the way seconds become minutes become hours, and any hour can be our finest. Or darkest. It's our choice.
