Celies, brālīti,
Aunies kājas,
Iesim Jānīti
Ielīgot. /Latvju daina/
One of the most Latvian holiday “Jāņi” is just around the corner and people leave city walls to enjoy the nature and celebrate the traditions of our ancestors (more info: http://www.latvia.travel/en/article/summer-solstice-celebrations).
Pastalas are Latvian traditional leather shoes, that are made of a piece of leather and tied up with leather straps. Pastalas were worn with Latvian traditional costume until 19th century when the wealthiest people startet to wear leather shoes as we know them today, while pastalas remained as footwear for the farm work.
Even nowadays people tend to wear national clothing while celebrating the Midsummer night thus trying to channel the spirits of our ancestors and magical experience written in the Latvian folk beliefs and even more while participating in Latvian Song and Dance festival (more info: http://www.latvia.travel/en/article/song-and-dance-celebration). Pastalas remain popular not only as an accessible element of Latvian traditional clothing but also are still used as a footwear in Latvian folk dances.
In the year of Latvia’s 100th anniversary pastalas can be an ideal gift to those who seek the feeling of Latvian roots from the past as well as ones who like to relax their body and give it a foot massage. A great alternative for people who are too sensitive to walk barefoot but still want to increase the blood flow and give their feet a bit of a workout.
Made out of soft genuine leather they come in different colors, thicknesses and can be adapted to each wearer.
