Hair loss in both males and females, medically known as alopecia, is a common condition that affects millions of people worldwide. It can be caused by various factors, including genetics, hormonal changes, aging, stress, and certain medical conditions.
In males, the most common form of hair loss is male pattern baldness, also known as androgenetic alopecia. It typically starts with a receding hairline and thinning at the crown, eventually leading to partial or complete baldness. Male pattern baldness is mainly influenced by genetics and the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT).
In females, hair loss patterns can vary significantly. Female pattern hair loss typically involves diffuse thinning on the crown, widening of the parting line, or overall thinning of the hair. Unlike male pattern baldness, female hair loss is less predictable and can be influenced by hormonal changes due to factors such as pregnancy, menopause, or polycystic o***y syndrome (PCOS).
