The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists is one of the leading governing bodies in OBGYN worldwide and they released this advisory yesterday.
The good news is that based on the current information:
โ
Most pregnant women with COVID-19 have had mild cases and good recovery.
โ
COVID-19 has not been shown to increase the risk of miscarriages.
โ
COVID-19 has not been shown to pass from mother to fetus in pregnancy. While one newborn tested positive recently, it is thought that the child likely contracted the disease during childbirth. .
โ
COVID-19 has not been shown to cause abnormalities in the fetusโ development

Breastfeeding is safe once precautions (E.g. hand washing, mask wearing etc) are done. However, expressing the milk and bottle feeding is another option.
It is important to note that this is based on the information that we have currently and the Numbers of patients are still small. .
These are concerning times and will continue to post information as I receive it.
However the MOST important thing, is to take the necessary precautions and inform your physician or the Ministry BY PHONE if you think you were exposed and/or are having symptoms.
