Made with a mindful effort to achieve Sustainability and Circular Fashion. Established in 1950 as a sewing house, nest Robe is a small environmentally conscious brand. Our garments are meticulously designed and crafted locally in Japan using fine natural materials, mostly linen. Our brand philosophy focuses on conscious, sustainable, and circular fashion based on “MONOZUKURI,”

a Japanese cultural term describing the traditional approach to producing quality products with precise attention to detail and with the experience and expertise of artisans. Our slower, more mindful approach utilizes natural materials and environmentally friendly processes for production without compromise. Our goal is to create high-quality and timeless fashion pieces through MONOZUKURI and to ensure that our customers are acquiring a truly sustainable product. We have strong long-term relationships with local partner factories whose valued experienced artisans and textile experts fundamentally understand the ethos of our brand.

One of the iconic fabrics that represent Euro vintage wear is indigo-dyed linen. CONFECT has developed a unique fabric by coating this linen with sumi (black ink) pigment. Another distinctive fabric is made from worsted wool, dyed using a traditional Japanese technique called nagashi-zome, in which dye is floated on the surface of water to create organic patterns that are then transferred onto the fabric—resulting in a striking vertical motif. Using these two fabrics, we created CONFECT’s GEAR WEAR collection, inspired by elements of outdoor clothing.

To Bring Out the Natural Texture Inherent in the Material, the Knitting Tension Is Set Loosely. After Knitting, the Fabric Is Washed to Remove the Wax Applied to the Yarn, Then Finished with Steam.
A final essential step is ironing by skilled artisans, which prevents the fabric’s edges from curling and ensures that the shape is set without compromising the material's natural character. All of these steps rely on the nuanced judgment of human hands. It is precisely because the finishing is carried out by artisans with years of experience in knit production that the resulting garments exhibit such rich, expressive character.

Inspection of the knitted fabric involves not only identifying defects, but also measuring the stretch and tension of each individual piece. If any flaws are found, they are repaired by hand. Should a piece be deemed beyond repair, it is carefully unraveled by skilled artisans, and the yarn is reused for knitting once again.

Each stitch is precisely programmed by a technician who has hands-on experience at the knitting site. Though it may appear to be a simple V-neck cardigan, the design takes into account factors such as stretch during wear, the natural movement of the fabric, and the stability of each part’s shape. Even seemingly simple components require detailed adjustments—adding or reducing stitches along curves—to ensure a smooth and elegant finish.

For this summer’s knitwear collection, CONFECT has partnered with a knit manufacturer in Gosen, Niigata—a region known for its exceptional craftsmanship and deep-rooted history. Linen, a natural fiber, plays the lead role in these knits. Often called a “knitter’s challenge,” linen is known for its slubs, irregular texture, and stiffness—all of which require delicate handling compared to other fibers. As a result, very few knit manufacturers are equipped to work with linen. The knit factory we collaborated with in Gosen has extensive experience working with various types of fibers across a wide range of gauges. Their refined techniques and production system make them particularly skilled in handling linen.

“Gosen Knit: Japanese Craftsmanship Upheld by an Entire Town”
Among all knitwear products distributed in Japan, those labeled MADE IN JAPAN account for only about 2%. While the majority of the market is dominated by mass-produced, low-cost imports, there is one region that continues to uphold the tradition of Japanese-made knitwear—Gosen City in Niigata Prefecture. Niigata has a long history as a textile-producing region, dating back to the Edo period. In the postwar reconstruction era, Gosen City developed a specialty in yarn-dyeing, and alongside it, the local knitting industry flourished. At its peak, Gosen was home to over 100 knitwear manufacturers, forming a major production hub. Today, that number has dwindled to around ten companies. Still, the area has preserved a robust production system capable of handling a wide range of knit styles—from low-gauge to high-gauge—as well as an educational framework that ensures traditional skills are passed down from veteran artisans to the younger generation. The entire manufacturing process—from dyeing the yarn to finishing the garment—is carried out within Gosen, making it a rare, fully integrated production environment that has endured to this day.

Our company is working on a project called "UpcycleLino", which aims to make use of the inevitable fabric scraps—cutting waste—generated during the clothing production process. From this project, we have developed upcycled fabric, and under the "UpcycleLino BASIC" line, we are creating timeless, genderless, and ageless clothing that is not swayed by fleeting trends and can be cherished for years to come.

A large size shoulder/hand bag crafted from premium Valencia leather which is tanned by hand in the renowned leather tanning area of Himeji, Hyogo Japan to create durable yet soft leather. No finishing treatment is applied to retain the natural moist texture of this fine leather. Each of our leather bags is unique having the random pebble-like surface pattern and minor imperfections which provide a character, a personality, to the product. This bag will age beautifully with wear and use and develop the patina over time.
