セルロイドは、深みのあるツヤと硬質さの中にしなやかさを併せ持つ、非常に魅力的な素材です。メガネ素材として理想的でありながら、加工には高い技術と時間を要するため量産には向かず、現在では扱える職人も少なくなっています。ここ数年鯖江での生産も一時途絶えていましたが、今回特別に再生産が実現しました。

デザインは、少し目尻に向かって垂れたようにすることで抜け感を作ったウェリントンシェイプをベースに、一般的なアセテートではなく希少なセルロイドで再構築。程よいボリューム感を保ちながらもフロント幅をしっかり確保することで、顔幅の広いアジア人にも自然にフィットするバランスに仕上げています。

テンプルには厚みの強弱をつけることで適度な柔軟性が生まれ、カチッとした硬さがありながらも包み込むような掛け心地を実現しています。
鼻まわりにはクリングスタイプのチタンパッドを採用し、長時間の着用でも快適に保てるよう設計されています。

製造は国内屈指の眼鏡産地・福井県鯖江。熟練の職人が一本ずつ丁寧に仕上げた、高品質なアイウェアです。

Celluloid is an exceptionally captivating material, known for its deep, rich luster and firm yet supple character. Though it is an ideal material for eyewear, its processing requires extraordinary skill and time, making mass production difficult. As a result, only a limited number of artisans are still able to work with it today. In recent years, celluloid production in Sabae—Japan’s renowned eyewear capital—had come to a halt, but this special edition marks its rare revival.

The design is based on a Wellington shape, subtly softened with a gentle downward line toward the outer corners to create an effortless and refined impression. Instead of the more common acetate, this frame is meticulously reconstructed in rare celluloid. By maintaining a balanced thickness and securing enough width in the front, it achieves a natural, well-proportioned fit that complements the facial features of many Asian wearers.

The temples are carefully shaped with varying thickness to provide flexibility—offering a crisp firmness combined with a gentle, embracing comfort. Around the nose, titanium pad arms with adjustable pads ensure a stable and comfortable fit even during extended wear.

Each frame is handcrafted in Sabae, Fukui—Japan’s leading eyewear production region—by skilled artisans who dedicate meticulous attention to every detail. The result is a high-quality piece of eyewear that embodies timeless design, precision, and exceptional craftsmanship.

While it is ideal for eyewear, its complex processing requires exceptional craftsmanship and time, making mass production difficult. As a result, the number of artisans capable of handling celluloid has declined. Production in Sabae, Japan’s leading eyewear region, had once stopped—but this special edition marks its rare revival.

The design is based on the timeless French vintage crown-panto style, reinterpreted in rare celluloid instead of the more common acetate. Though the lens size remains modest, the frame front is given ample width to achieve a balanced proportion—perfectly suited for Asian facial structures with slightly broader face widths.

The temples are crafted from our original β-titanium for a lightweight and flexible fit. Adjustable hinges allow fine-tuning of the temple angle to accommodate different ear heights, while the nose area features comfortable pad arms and a slightly wider bridge for greater stability. Together, these details provide long-lasting comfort even after hours of wear.

By maintaining a slender silhouette while giving the front enough width, it achieves a natural and balanced fit that complements the facial proportions of many Asian wearers.

For the temples, we use our original β-titanium, providing a light and flexible wearing experience. The adjustable hinges allow fine-tuning of the temple angle to accommodate differences in ear height, enhancing overall comfort and balance. セルフレームでツーブリッジを作りたい。
でも、すべてをセルで仕上げると少し重たく見えてしまい、特に女性には手が伸びにくい。
そこで着想を得たのが、メタルとのコンビネーションでした。

ブリッジの一部にチタンを使うことで、抜け感のあるハイブリッジ風のデザインに。
フロントは、丸みのあるボストンをベースに、少しシャープさを加えたシェイプ。
そこにメタルブリッジを組み合わせることで、クラシックとは異なる、モダンでナードなツーブリッジが完成しました。

素材にもこだわり、フロントには軽やかな掛け心地を叶えるオリジナルのβチタンを使用。
テンプルには、耳の高さの違いに対応できるアジャスターヒンジを採用し、傾斜角の細かな調整が可能です。
鼻まわりは、やや広めのブリッジとクリングスタイプのパッドで安定感あるフィットに。長時間の着用でも快適さが続きます。

I wanted to create a double-bridge frame in acetate.
But making the entire frame from acetate tends to look bulky—especially for women, it can feel a bit too heavy.
That’s where the idea of combining it with metal came in.

By using titanium for one of the bridges, we introduced a sense of lightness, creating a high-bridge look with more balance.
The front design is based on a rounded Boston shape, with a subtle sharpness added for a cleaner silhouette.
Pairing this with a metal bridge results in a hybrid double-bridge frame—modern, nerdy, and refreshingly different from the classic style.

We paid close attention to materials as well.
The front uses our original β-titanium for a light and comfortable fit.
Temples are equipped with adjustable hinges, allowing fine-tuning of the tilt angle to accommodate differences in ear height.
At the nose, a wider bridge and adjustable pad arms (clings) provide a stable, secure fit—comfortable enough for long hours of wear.

Each frame is handcrafted in Sabae, Fukui—Japan’s leading eyewear production region.

フィッティングにこだわったオリジナルヒンジとテンプルを製作。
ヒンジには純チタンを使い、ひょうたん型にすることで、顔幅や傾斜角を工具を使うことで微調整できるようにしています。
テンプルにはベータチタンを使い、顔全体を包み込むような柔らかな弾性を持たせながらも、しっかりと耳部分でホールド出来るように適度に厚みにあるモダンを採用しています。

通常のテンプルサイズは145mmが基本ですが、AKIRA&SONSでは多くの方に対応できるように、ヒンジを長めに取ることで約５mm長い、トータル150mmに設計しています。
長い場合は、一度モダンを外してテンプルカットすることで約20mmほど短くすることも可能です。

コンセプトである『FIXED WITH BONE』の精神に沿った、眼鏡技術者の腕がしっかりと振るわせるアイウェアがここにあります。

製造は眼鏡製造世界三大産地でもある福井県鯖江の熟練された職人によって１本１本丁寧に作られた世界に誇るジャパンクオリティです。

Round frame with a size that is easy to match.
Original hinges and temples were produced with special attention to fitting.The hinges are made of pure titanium and have a gourd shape so that the width of the face and the angle of inclination can be fine-tuned using tools. Beta-titanium is used for the temples, giving it a soft elasticity that wraps around the entire face. And we have adopted a modern that is moderately thick so that it can be firmly held by the ear.The standard temple size is 145mm, but AKIRA&SONS has designed the temples to be about 5mm longer, or 150mm in total, so that they can be used by many people.
If it is too long, you can shorten it by about 20mm by removing the temple tip and cutting the temple. Here is the eyewear that the optician's skill is firmly in line with the spirit of the concept "FIXED WITH BONE".
Manufactured by skilled craftsmen in Sabae, Fukui Prefecture, which is one of the world's three major eyeglass production areas, each one is carefully made with world-class Japanese quality.
