ARTIST STATEMENT
Humanity and stone have lived together since ancient times.
Civilization literally began in the Stone Age.
The origins of fashion, decoration, and art undeniably lie in stone.
In the journey toward modernity, stone has contributed greatly to the industrial and technological advancements that have enriched our lives.
Today, stone serves as a kind of invisible talisman, known as a “power stone,” providing a sense of protection.
Each stone is unique, a form of art unto itself, and has the power to make us reflect on our own identities—each of us, like stone, carrying our own “inclusions.”
Even after death, stones have long marked the presence of human life, preceding the development of gravestones by millennia.
Stone wields a double-edged power.
In the process of utilizing stone, we encounter toxins, pollution, and warfare.
Yet, humanity has continued to create with it, perhaps because, fundamentally, nothing can be achieved without stone.
In the end, we are mere residents, controlled by stone, living on this rocky planet we call Earth.
Stone has profoundly influenced human creativity.
At IIRIDO, we strive to capture the “will of stone and human” to transform stone into something beyond its original form.
It is a force that propels the creativity of individuals as unique as stone itself, inspiring us to reach new heights.
人類と石は古来からともに生きてきた。
文明は文字通り石器時代からスタートした。
ファッション、装飾、アートの原点は紛れもなく、石であった。
近代に至る道では、私達の生活を劇的に豊かにする工業・産業発展に大きく寄与した。
現代は、パワーストーンとも言われる見えないもののお守りのようなものとしても機能している。
石そのものが、ひとつとして同じものが存在しないアートとも言えるし、
“インクルージョンのある、石のような私達自身”をも振り返らせる力を持つ。
そんな私達が死んでもなお、墓石が発達するはるか昔から、
人が生きた形跡として石が寄り添ってきた。
諸刃の剣のようなパワーを持つ石。
石を活用する過程で人体への毒、公害、戦争も伴い、
それでも人類は数々のクリエーションを成し遂げてきた。
裏を返すと石なしでは何も成しえない。
所詮私達は、地球という石の上で、石に支配された住人にすぎないとも言える。
人類の創造性に絶大な影響を与えてきた石。
IIRIDOでは”石と人の意思”を汲み取り、石が石を超えていく試みを行っていく。
石のような、個性あふれる私達の創造性をさらに飛躍させる原動力になるはずだ。
