At IROS, we offer one complimentary re-dye within one year of purchase.
About a year and a half ago, IROS team member Shinya (Pino) picked up this mustard-colored T-shirt.
After countless days in the Okinawa sun and surf, we decided it was time for a new color.
This time, we re-dyed it in turmeric— a color chosen to complement his sun-kissed skin.
A piece gets worn.It changes with time. And sometimes, it finds a new expression.
From the hands that make, to the hands that wear, and back again.
We believe that is part of the relationship between a maker and the person who wears it.

From Nature to Color.

IROS’ sage green was born while imagining the landscapes of Okinawa.

Natural dyeing does not always produce the same result.

The materials available at that moment, the conditions of the dyeing process, and the subtle touch of the person dyeing.

Countless elements come together to create a single color.

What we value at IROS is not simply reproducing colors that already exist, but discovering new ones through the combinations of natural materials and the process of daily experimentation and trial and error.

This color, too, was born from that accumulation of time, experience, and experimentation.

沖縄の景色を思い浮かべながら生まれたIROSのセージグリーン。

自然素材の染めは、いつも同じ結果になるわけではありません。

その時の素材や染めの条件、人の手の加減。

いくつもの要素が重なり、一つの色が生まれます。

Creating Sage Green.

We blend lazurite with ochre, a mineral pigment known for its strong, earthy color.

By layering the blue born from mineral with the warmth of earth, we create a sage green inspired by the landscapes of Okinawa.

The vivid blue of lazurite and the calm, muted tone of ochre.

By bringing these contrasting materials together, a unique color emerges somewhere in between.

Unfolding Blue

Before dyeing, each piece is carefully folded and tied by hand. It is then dyed, and finally, the ties are undone.

At first glance, the process may seem simple. But within it is a quiet amount of time spent shaping the colors and patterns we envision, little by little, through human hands.

And not everything turns out exactly as planned.

There are expressions that cannot be known until the ties are undone.
The touch of the person dyeing, and the subtle variations within the natural dye.

When these elements come together, each piece reveals a color and pattern that can never be exactly replicated.

Made by hand, then entrusted to nature.

A blue born from the meeting of human hands and nature, in a moment that can happen only once.

染める前に一つひとつ絞りを入れ、染め上げ、最後にその絞りをほどく。

一見すると単純に見える作業工程ですが、そこには私たちがイメージした色や柄を、人の手を使って少しずつ形にしていく時間があります。

そして、すべてが思い通りになるわけではありません。

絞りをほどいてみるまで分からない表情。
染める人の手の加減と、天然染料が持つ揺らぎ。

それぞれが重なり合うことで、ひとつとして同じものではない色と柄が生まれます。

人の手でつくり、自然に委ねる。

人の手と自然が重なり合う、その一瞬にしか生まれない青。

Dyed with Lazurite, the deep blue mineral that is a main component of lapis lazuli, and finished in a vivid ultramarine blue.
Magnetite, a black iron oxide mineral, is blended in to add subtle depth and a slightly muted tone to the blue.
 A comfortable crew length with a thick terry-pile sole, finished in a unique blue tie-dye pattern for each pair.

A vivid ultramarine blue created from Lazurite (Lapis Lazuli). By adding Magnetite, we give the color a subtle depth while preserving its natural vibrancy.

IROS Soot Tie-Dye Socks — Gray

This shade is created using soot made by burning pine wood from Kyoto.

Before dyeing, each sock is carefully bound by hand with rubber bands.
Where we bind it, and how tightly, creates subtle differences in the patterns and shades that emerge after dyeing.

Rather than aiming for a uniform finish, we work by hand, looking for the unique character that can exist in each individual pair.

Even the soot created from burning wood changes subtly depending on the material and dyeing conditions.
Over time, the color settles into the fabric, gradually developing a deeper character.

Each pair carries its own expression, while the color continues to change with time.
This natural aging is part of the beauty of soot dyeing.

煤タイダイソックス — Gray

京都産の松の木を燃やして生まれた煤を使用し、つくり出したこの色合い。

染める前には、ソックスをゴムで一つひとつ縛り上げていきます。
どこを、どれくらい強く縛るのか。
そのわずかな違いが、染め上がったときの模様や濃淡をつくります。

均一な仕上がりを目指すのではなく、手を動かしながら、その一足にしか生まれない表情を探していく。

木を燃やすことで生まれる煤も、素材や染めの条件によって少しずつ表情を変えます。
そして、時間とともに素材に馴染み、少しずつその色を深めていく。

一足ずつ異なる表情と、時間とともに変化していく色。
そんな経年美化も、煤染めならではの楽しみです。

Letting the Color Settle — Gray

The dyed socks are left to dry slowly and naturally.

Colors made from natural materials continue to settle and soften, not only during the dyeing process, but also as they dry over time.

Even when using the same dye, the final color can vary depending on the season, weather, temperature, humidity, and the material itself—giving each pair its own unique character.

We believe that these subtle differences between each pair are also part of the beauty of color born from handwork.

染め上げ後の干し工程 — Gray

染め上げたソックスを、ゆっくりと乾かしていく。

自然素材からつくられた染料は、染めている瞬間だけでなく、乾いていく時間の中でも少しずつ色が落ち着いていきます。

同じ染料を使っていても、季節、天候、温度、湿度などの環境や素材によって染まり方は変わり、それぞれに異なる表情が生まれます。

一足ずつの違いも、私たちは手仕事から生まれる色の一部だと考えています。
