The Letter That Never Came
Mara sat by the window, tracing raindrops as they slid down the glass. Each drop reminded her of the countless unanswered questions she had carried for months. She had waited for a letter—a single line, a word, anything—from someone who promised they’d never forget her. But the mailbox remained stubbornly empty.
In the café across the street, laughter and the clatter of cups filled the air. Mara envied the casual joy of strangers. She had loved too openly, trusted too easily, and now, each memory was a quiet ache in her chest. Yet, even in the silence, there was a strange comfort. Waiting, she realized, wasn’t just about hoping for someone else—it was about understanding herself.
When the bell above the café door jingled, a sudden impulse made her rise. She didn’t know what she would say or do, but for the first time in months, Mara felt the courage to step out of the waiting. The world was moving on, and maybe, just maybe, so could she.
