Sakam

Sakam promoting expression of ones self through design, styling and illustration. Sakam is a Pokot word meaning honeybee. Quality is key.

I chose this name for my line because it is my mother’s clan name. She is one of the people who strongly encouraged me to follow my dreams, and for whom the phrase busy as a bee is a perfect description. Asian and Bohemian inspired looks are the prominent themes in my designs. Sakam's principles:

Turns out being a fabric hoarder was research all along. 👀
What started as boxes of scraps, old clothes, and "I'll use this someday" materials eventually became We've Created a Monster.

The Bride

Every horror story needs an ending. Or at least the illusion of one.

The Bride is the final look in We’ve Created a Monster. A seemingly happy ending that feels more like the beginning of a new chapter. The monster is here. The question is no longer how to stop it, but how we choose to live with it.

Constructed from discarded curtain sheers, white denim pants, and leftover fabrics, the look features an asymmetrical b***d bodice, a column skirt with a back slit, lace-up details, and a veil created from the remaining sheers.

A wedding, a warning, and a new beginning all at once.

The White Tee

A monster we’ve learned to live with.
Inspired by the bandage-like wrapping of mummies, this look represents a fragile sense of hope . The idea that maybe the damage can still be managed, repaired, or at least acknowledged.

Made entirely from discarded white T-shirts, the piece reflects the growing conversations around fast fashion, overconsumption, and textile waste led by sustainable brands, activists, and communities pushing for change.

For this final act of We’ve Created a Monster, the mummy becomes a symbol of the monsters already living among us.

Overgrown

Excess has OFFICIALLY become the norm.

This look is built from a never-ending collection of discarded ties, each hand-stitched into rose-like clusters and reconstructed into a sculptural tie scarf wrapped around the waist and draped off the shoulder beneath an asymmetrical collar.

The shirt dress itself is made from cotton off-cuts with subtle pinstripe details — a reworked take on something familiar, now overwhelmed by accumulation.

Originally sketched differently, the piece evolved to include the roses as a symbol of resilience. Even in excess, something survives.

The Fringe Look

Made entirely from scrap materials and discarded denim, this look is centered around texture, color, and movement. The contrast between the minimal fitted top and the heavy, layered pants creates a deliberate imbalance.

Where is the balance?

Just like our consumption habits, everything feels excessive and out of proportion. The overwhelming fringe and layered scraps reflect the chaos of overconsumption — beautiful at first glance, but heavy underneath.

The Bag Look

This is the point in the story where overconsumption becomes normal. Excess takes over, and the horror fully settles in.

Constructed from discarded pants and kitenge scraps, this look is built around transformation and excess. The sleeves zip off for multiple styling options, the top and pants buckle together into a one-piece illusion, and the trousers shift between mini shorts, long shorts, and full-length pants.

And when that still isn’t enough? The kitenge panels hidden within the trousers unzip into two tote bags.

One look. Too many options. Exactly the point.

A sheer cape reconstructed from an old skirt, a bandeau top made from fabric scraps, and redesigned second-hand pants with hidden patchwork exposed through the unzipped side seams.

This collection plays out like a horror film.
It starts quietly, almost unnoticeable, until the signs begin to show… and by the time we realize what’s happening, it’s already too late.

The first chapter begins with what feels familiar — the little black dress. Seemingly harmless. Clean. Wearable. But something is slightly off.

Made from repurposed black denim jeans and a discarded jacket, this piece hints at the unexpected turn the collection slowly begins to take, reflecting the strange relationship we have with fashion consumption and the consequences that build beneath it.
