Long before modern luxury houses existed,
Sri Lanka was already a kingdom of gems.
These frescoes, painted over 1,500 years ago at Sigiriya during the reign of King Kashyapa (5th century AD), depict women adorned in finely crafted gold jewelry and richly set gemstones a reflection of a civilization deeply connected to beauty, status, and refinement.
Sri Lanka, known in ancient times as “Ratna-Dweepa” the Island of Gems, has produced some of the world’s most coveted stones for centuries:
blue sapphires, rubies, cat’s eyes, and rare colored gems that traveled through royal trade routes to Persia, India, and beyond.
The women of Sigiriya are believed to be celestial apsaras or royal attendants, offering flowers symbols of prosperity, grace, and abundance.
Their jewelry wasn’t ornamental. It was identity, power, and presence.
Every layered necklace, every gemstone centerpiece, every gold detail
echoes a level of craftsmanship that still defines Sri Lankan luxury today.
Serendip carries that legacy forward.
Not as inspiration but as continuation.
From the Island of Gems,
to you.
