The KALA Personality
KALA is the expression of every woman’s beauty through the art of fancy and innovation. KALA dwells in a realm of its own where imagination and immaculate taste reign. KALA dares to be different and transcends the concepts of a convention i.e. The KALA woman creates her own identity and inimitable style by flowing with the shape of a woman’s body making no demands on it to res
trict itself to a stipulated shape or size. The KALA Design Philosophy
KALA is created from pure cotton, muslin and voile fabrics. Each garment is designed and dyed individually so that no two garments have the same dye pattern. KALA favours bold combinations that make you stand out in a crowd. The designs embroidered on KALA garments are taken from ancient filigree and art forms from across the world. The KALA Team
KALA (meaning beauty in Greek and Art in Sanskrit) is designed and executed Nirmali Hettiarachchi (with colourful inspiration thrown in by Shyam Hettiarachchi), and a dedicated and creative team. The KALA family comprises an unusual and motley group. In an effort to create a “happiness quotient” in our lives, we together with our household helpers - the maids and the cook, the chauffeur and his brother (the handyman) and their friend began our KALA adventure. We inspire each other and put our creative talents to work by experimenting with colour combinations and a myriad of tying techniques to get the best combinations and patterns on our fabrics. We also work with a talented group of ladies who embroider so meticulously and tirelessly to bring our designs to life. We have collectively discovered so much joy by exploring our creative talents by tying and dyeing, embroidering, crocheting and sewing for KALA. It is truly beautiful to watch everyone grow by working together to expand their creativity. We hope you will enjoy KALA as much as we have in creating her.
