Niruuda Recap 03: The Story of Giving

Collection 4 – Wessanthara Collection

The fourth Niruuda collection was inspired by the Wessanthara Jathakaya, beautifully depicted in the murals of Medawala Tempita Viharaya.

This timeless story of generosity and compassion guided the patterns, colours, and abstract compositions of the collection.

The designs were translated into a variety of lifestyle products including T-shirts, side bags, yoga bags, tote bags, and earrings, bringing heritage-inspired storytelling into everyday life.

Niruuda Recap 02: Nature in Abstraction

Collection 3 – Floral Collection 🌿🌿🍃🌼🌸

Our third Niruuda collection celebrated the vibrant beauty of nature found in Kandyan art.

Inspired by the trees, flowers, and fruits depicted in traditional murals, we transformed these organic forms into expressive abstract patterns and colour compositions.

This collection introduced a new direction for Niruuda through a small fashion line, featuring four outfits with overcoats, short blouses, and skirts, bringing heritage-inspired art into wearable contemporary pieces.

Niruuda Recap 01: 'Where the Story Began'
(Collection 1 & Collection 2)

Every Niruuda collection begins with a story rooted in Sri Lankan heritage.

Our first two collections were inspired by the beautiful temple murals of Kathaluwa Purvarama Viharaya and Degaldoruwa Temple, where Kandyan artists captured moments of devotion, music, and spiritual symbolism. By studying these artworks, we explored their shapes, colours, and compositions, transforming them into abstract forms through our block printing process.

These stories came to life through a range of handcrafted pieces including tote bags, hand pouches, bandanas, earrings, and necklaces.

The beginning of the Niruuda journey — where tradition met modern expression.
