“Clara Minnelli” is an environment-conscious brand in Colombo Sri Lanka, focused on emerging into the fashion industry responsibly – working our way from an ethical production process to stunning style aesthetics. As such, we take responsibility for our collections' production as well as the number of pieces we manufacture per style, ethical solutions for material waste and premium quality for lon
g-term use. Our designs have a diverse personality not only with the fit, construction, but embellishing as well. Our consumers may find historical references by looking over the collections. Each piece has the potential to unfold a story of its own to whom so ever owns it. My aim is to enable my consumers to travel within eras and styles and only be limited by their own imagination. I am often finding inspiration from nature..From a dried up flower to the veins of a leaf to the blemishes of moss on a tree.... The natural colours and their unique structure have often left me at a loss for words. As a species I feel we take all that nature does for us for granted. While I have many various influences and motivations behind my work my main one would be the importance of creating a long lasting product that is not only good for your health due to its organic nature, but also 100 percent locally sourced and created. Why is supporting local businesses important to me
Well it's an interesting topic... I admire fashion no matter where it comes from. I also found myself.. and formed my own ethos. I saw around me how local trades are dying in favour of imported and cheaper options. We cannot compete with price when it comes to mass produced goods.. be it food, to electronics to clothes. The usual Sri lankan mentality is rooted in being thrifty. Which is why we buy goods that are imported if they are cheaper. We need to realize that in doing so we too are adding to the problem. We too must take responsibility for killing local trade. And as a designer I have made it my mission to make things that not only are locally made and sourced, but also create an awareness of organically produced clothing and the benefits of it. Granted my clothes will not be as affordable as clothes that have been mass produced, but it is also a long lasting product with zero carbon footprint involved. Many of my designs are made in such a way that will give the wearer a multifunctional, multi dimensional look. You are genuinely only limited by your imagination. They are statement pieces... That can be adapted into anyone's wardrobe and sense of personal style.
