The Moroccan caftan has been inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, following a decision on Wednesday in New Delhi during the 20th session of the UN agency’s Intergovernmental Committee.
This inscription is an international recognition of Morocco’s centuries-old craftsmanship and reflects the country’s broader effort to preserve, promote, and pass down its cultural heritage under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
More than just a garment, the caftan is a cornerstone of Morocco’s cultural mosaic and a symbol of identity, social cohesion, and regional diversity.
