Back in June, our friends at DARBY hosted a Team Canada watch party with fellow Torontonians NAVALYX, and the Icarus-wearing, dive-bar-touring players of Railpath Sporting Club were out in force.

Magazines were read, Modelos were deleted, and in the thick of the crowd, Icarus Battle of the Bands mastermind Alex Ross went suitably mental in his Fu**ed Up football shirt.

What a summer.

With Scotland making their first World Cup appearance in more than 25 years, stylist Martha, producer dresden leitner 💗 and photographer Charlotte Cullen teamed up to document the lesser-represented voices in the Tartan Army.

So, a highlight for us was seeing Gender Goals FC 🏳️‍⚧️🇵🇸 donning their new Icarus kits for the occasion - a collab with hair salon x club night Ponyboy masterminded by Bek Ziola . Putting your plain old kits - and forgettable nights at Pop World - to shame.

As you can tell, these hopeful, excited pics were taken before the Brazil match.

We thought seeing a football shirt in a pub was the most ‘Icarus in London’ way we could spot our clubs in the wild.

That is, until someone from Next Door Records hopped off the Tube and saw Shepherd’s Booters FC framed and featured on the platform. Up the Booters!

The day an Icarus shirt is served on a tiny collection of sharing plates for 20 pound a piece, we’ll know we’ve truly made it in this city.

When we stumbled across our Indonesian kit design stars Huda and Tara here on Instagram, we knew they could bring Icarus a fresh design perspective - and our teams plenty of brilliant kits.

Not only did they do that, but they also gave us a two-for-the-price-of-one appreciation for Indonesian indie rock. ‘Intangibles’, a scout would call it.

Hindia - variously called ‘a role model’ and ‘the Mbappe of Indonesian music’ by our colleagues - was a clear favorite of theirs, and soon became one of ours.

So, when we caught these pics of the man himself wearing our Geese collab jersey to a crowd of thousands, Huda and Tara were very very happy guys.

Icarus Cup VI in the books.

Thanks so much to the record 81 teams that came out to fly the flag for US grassroots soccer during the World Cup, together proving that more teams certainly doesn’t mean less excitement.

Not content to simply bring world class football to proceedings, we paid one final homage to the World Cup by pausing for a ‘hydration break’ (a.k.a. an apocalyptic storm) ahead of the playoffs, which claimed a couple of gazebo deposits and a few teams who were sorely missed on the Sunday. Thankfully the sun reemerged on Sunday morning and we had a great playoff series across our many divisions.

With the weather all over the place, we relied on the certainties of The Icarus Cup weekend: miraculous goals from recently-unretired center backs, misfiring champagne celebrations, and Alcoholigols taking home trophies.

A final round of applause to our friends at Casa Soccer League for organising, all of our great sponsors for taking part, and each and every volunteer who helped make it happen.

How do we measure job satisfaction at Icarus?

It’s a complex formula combining gross compensation, work life balance, and just how surprising the last public figure spotted in an Icarus shirt was.

We recently partnered with Wise on some kits for a World Cup fan challenge (including an appearance from Icarus stalwart Robert Oliver) and hit the Match of the Day motherlode: Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer.

As part of their event, Wise brought 40 contestants representing countries from all over the globe (including Brazil, the US, UK, and Senegal) together to prove themselves in high stakes trivia, skills challenges and a penalty shootout against USMNT legend Brad Friedel, who was in no mood to give finalists a sympathy goal.
