Viscose here, viscose there. But do you know what is viscose?
Viscose, or rayon is a semi-synthetic fiber made out of natural sources which is cellulose. This fibre is made with different ways to obtain different textures of the fibres. This way, we have different grades of viscose that imitate the texture of different natural fibres such as cotton, wool, silk, and linen.
Back in the days, viscose is made to produce imitation of fabrics that is expensive for affordable prices and can be produced in mass quantities.
Firstly, the wood pulp is extracted from wood and is converted into soluble compound which is then dissolved. Then it is forced through a spinneret which would make a filament or thread of viscose and is solidified. Then, it is used to form cloth by weaving its filament.
Viscose has the draping and comforting properties just like natural fibres. Fabrics made out of viscose are often cool, soft, comfortable, and do not insulate body heat hence is ideal for hot and humid conditions.
Now you know how and what viscose actually is. Hope this helps you in choosing your fabrics!🧸
