HOW TO MATCH CLOTHES: THE BASIC IDEA
If you’re reading this, you’re probably having a hard time matching clothes. And don’t worry, you’re not alone.
In fact, it’s one of the most common questions I get! Usually, guys get confused when trying to combine different color shirts, pants, and shoes together. I’m keeping this as simple as possible.
1. Menswear neutrals are the KEY to outfits that ALWAYS “match” and never clash. Learn these, memorize them, use them. Watch the video above to see what I mean.
2. Contrast is key. Light top, dark bottom, light shoes. Dark top, light bottom, dark shoes. You want a good amount of contrast among the three.
3. Stay away from tonal outfits (all three pieces being the same color, or close in value). It can be pulled off successfully, but also has the possibility of looking kind of terrible. It’s a more advanced style concept which we’ll cover in a different article.

WHAT TO WEAR FOR EVERY OCCASION
With so many different dress codes out there, it can be difficult to know what to wear, even when the type of dress requested is stated on the invitation.
1. SMART CASUAL

Women: Wear a pencil skirt or dress pants, paired with a silk or button-down top and high heels.
Men: Opt for dressy trousers, paired with a collared shirt and loafers.
When to wear it: office parties, happy hours, business luncheons.
2. BUSINESS CASUAL

Women: Put on a skirt, khakis, or dress pants paired with long sleeve or three-quarter sleeve tops. A casual dress and flats are options as well.
Men: Wear a button-down or a polo shirt, paired with khakis, or dress pants. If you so desire, layer with a v-neck sweater, a blazer, or a sport coat. A tie is optional.
