Breastfeeding isn’t free.
It takes more than people realize.
It takes your body, your sleep, your energy.
It takes hours hooked up to a pump, feeding on demand, washing parts, storing milk.
It takes skipped meals and showers.
It takes your comfort, your rest, your patience.
It takes every ounce of your mind and heart.. sometimes more than you think you can give.
It takes doubting yourself when your baby cries, wondering if you’re enough.
It takes being the only source of their nourishment, while the weight of that sits heavy on your chest.
It takes sitting awake while everyone else gets to close their eyes, because your baby’s survival depends on your body showing up.
It takes pieces of you. And it doesn’t give them back.
Breastfeeding is beautiful, yes.
But it’s also isolating, sacrificial, and draining.
So no, it’s not free.
It’s paid for with a mother’s body, her time, her heart, and her soul.
And every mom who chooses it, whether for a day, a month, or years... deserves more credit, more respect, and more support than the world will ever give her.
